9 AM to Noon

Join us at Doheny to participate in one of the largest volunteer events in the world as volunteers from up and down the coast join together to remove trash from our beaches and waterways.  Doheny’s  event, lead by our park Naturalist, meets at the Lifeguard Headquarters building by San Juan Creek at 9 AM to rally up, then hit the beaches and San Juan Creek.  Environmental displays and groups will be present, and goodies from local eateries are always available.  Special thanks to the City of Dana Point for its support in this event.

California’s coast and waterways have historically been collecting spots for annual accumulations of trash and debris. This debris, if not removed, can be harmful and even fatal to all manners of marine wildlife, can damage our state’s economy, and can even become a human health hazard. Coastal Cleanup Day is a great way for families, students, service groups, and neighbors to join together, take care of our fragile marine environment, show community support for our shared natural resources, learn about the impacts of marine debris and how we can prevent them, and to have fun!

Free Parking until 12:30 if you tell the front gate that you are cleaning.

What to bring:

Thanks,

Mrs. Steidle

What to Bring

  • A signed waiver: All volunteers must have a signed waiver. Volunteers under 18 must have a parent or guardian's signature as well. If you are not able to bring a signed waiver, site captains will have them available at each site.
  • A bucket or reusable bag*
  • Gloves (like gardening gloves or leather work gloves)*
  • A reusable water bottle*

**Practices will be Monday & Thursday after school and also on Saturday.****

Dear Students & Parents,

SRLA practice starts Wednesday, September 14th.

(SRLA is only for 7th & 8th grade students.)

We have approximately 10 spots for runners.

The first 10 to turn in all 3 pages of paperwork will get a spot.

Please make sure that all 3 forms are completely filled out.

If we have a waiting list, runners will be dropped who miss races and/or practices.

All students on the waiting list got a spot, last year.

Please print all 5 pages, so that you know what you are getting into.

We run 3 days a week, including weekends until the middle of March.  Every Saturday, will be a longer run.

It is a huge commitment.  We have a race every month, starting October 8th.  You will need to transport your child to all Saturday practices and races. (Some races are on Sunday.)  Most races are in the LA area.

All races are paid for by SRLA, including the marathon.  Students will receive a pair of shoes after the first half marathon and shirts at most races.  They will also get a uniform to wear for the marathon.

logo.png

Go to the SRLA website(http://srla.org), if you have any questions.  I will meet with any parents who have concerns or questions on Wednesday the 14th after school.  You can also email me or call me.

You can also contact Valerie Lindeborg.  She has been doing this for many years with Niguel students and her own children. (Valerielinderborg@cox.net)  She will be a leader this year.

Run for fun: Students may train with us and not commit or do the running races, but they still need all the paperwork turned in.

(This is not a school or district sponsored activity.)

Thanks,

Mrs. Steidle

PS - I am one of the leaders and Ms. Pagel is the other teacher leader.  We are looking for a parent(s) who wants to run with us and/or be a leader.
