Coronavirus Update #3
Posted 3/4/20

Coronavirus Tips

Dear CUSD Families,

Yesterday afternoon, CUSD Executive Cabinet members and District leadership participated in a conference call with the Orange County Department of Health to receive an update on COVID-19 in Orange County and how it may affect schools. This morning, we also participated in a phone call with the Orange County Sheriff's Department Emergency Operations Center and many local agencies to receive an update and coordinate resources if necessary.

Here is what we know:

  1. There are no confirmed cases of coronavirus in CUSD schools.
  2. While the Orange County Health Care Agency acknowledges that the "situation is rapidly evolving," officials still believe the risk to the general public remains low.
  3. The Orange County Health Care Agency has stated that school districts do not need to alter any plans at this time. This means that we do not need to cancel social gatherings, events, or daily activities until instructed to do so.
  4. CUSD custodial staff already follows proper cleaning and disinfecting techniques on a daily basis. However, out of an abundance of caution, we as a school district are drafting plans to provide for additional cleaning of CUSD classrooms.
  5. District staff is continuing to develop plans should the need to close schools arise. Such a directive would be done in coordination with the Orange County Health Care Agency and the Orange County Department of Education.
  6. All CUSD students, families, and staff should practice good health hygiene which includes washing your hands, staying home if you are sick, avoiding close contact with people who are sick and covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your sleeve (not hands).
  7. Updates from the Orange County Health Care Agency are provided here.

We will continue to update you as this situation changes.

Thank you,

Ryan Burris
Chief Communications Officer
